THANK YOU MESSAGE FROM LEADER OF THE PROGRESSIVE LABOUR PARTY

Fellow Statians, friends, and family. As the leader of the Progressive Labour Party PLP, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincerest gratitude. To God: For leading the candidates of the Progressive Labor Party to victory. We ask your continued wisdom, support, and guidance as we chart the way forward. To the voters we say Thank you, thank you for making this election a historic one, by exercising your power through voting. 

Voting is a silent action that has a loud response. For this Statia, YOU should be proud. To all PLP supporters, we would like to thank you for placing your trust in us once again, allowing us to continue the journey we embarked upon. Our list of candidates represents persons from all walks of life, which are key components as we develop the sustainability of our Golden Rock. 

To the Elders: Thank you for trusting and believing in our capabilities and passing the baton on to the next generation. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to learn, lead, and accomplish. We ask that you continue to guide and support our initiatives and pray for our successes as we develop the Statia we will all like to see. 

To My Peers: I would like to Thank you for your overwhelming support. I received a lot of encouraging words and well wishes. This tells me that you have been listening and do understand that we have a significant role to play to develop Statia positively with new ideas and goals. Developing Statia is a collective responsibility and I wish you all success, as you too work towards a sustainable Statia. 

To the entire community of Statia, PLP has been given the Mandate to continue the journey that we have embarked upon, developing a sustainable Statia for everyone. This is a task that we take very seriously. To do so, Statians must be ready. Ready to learn, ready to take on opportunities, ready to lead, ready to further their education, and ready to unite as one people. 

To those who fear the word Autonomy, it may sound terrifying if you do not understand the real meaning, but I would like to encourage you to not be discouraged and do not fear, for it simply means Statians having the opportunity to develop our Island in the direction that is in the best interest of each individual. 

We are ready to sit at the table with our counterparts as we move forward. There will be times where we will not agree but having dialogue and respect for one another will help us find common grounds. Step by step we will accomplish this together, in unity with fellow Statians, stakeholders, and The Netherlands. With Preparedness, Humanity, Respect, and togetherness, we will reach that ultimate goal! A better Statia for All.

LEADER OF PLP, MS. RECHELLINE LEERDAM RESPONSE TO ARTICLE OF RONALD VAN RAAK

In photo: PLP Leader, Rechelline Leerdam ORANJESTAD , St. Eustatius October 23, 2020 -- I was unpleasantly surprised by the first reaction coming from a Member of Parliament in The Hague (Ronald van Raak), after St. Eustatius Island Council elections on October 21, 2020. I was hoping for a more positive reaction as the people exercised their right to vote, in spite of the fact Statia will not receive their full democracy, and despite the COVID-19 pandemic.  I would like to make the following clear to Mr. Van Raak: In 2018, Raymond Knops with the backing of both the 1st and 2nd chamber support, chose to remove an elected government based on assumptions and rumors. They took away our democratic rights and placed two government commissioners to take the responsibilities of both the island council and the commissioners. The people did not agree!
